Hello faithful readers! If you were fretting over a dearth of sailing adventures from your favorite travel blogger, then fret no more. In a few days, yours truly is headed off to sea again - this time in the Central American country of Panama.
No, it will not be aboard Dragonfly. But similar to my travels aboard Whimsical, I will chronicle these adventures here on my Dragonfly blog, because it's already set up and everyone knows how to find it.
The name of the boat is Milagro. Named after a religious folk charm, it is a classic wooden ketch that was previously stripped down to the bare hull and meticulously rebuilt, with all-modern bells and whistles and other goodies. A ketch, unlike a sloop such as Dragonfly, has two masts.
I found Milagro and its skipper, Robert, the same way I found Whimsical: online. He and I have emailed and conversed via phone but have not yet met in person. All indications are that both skipper and vessel are solid and well-prepared! I will be aboard for the entire month of September. The crew will be just the two of us.
The boat is moored in Colon, which is right near the gates to the Panama Canal on the Caribbean side. Robert's plan is to cruise around and explore the lovely islands and bays just off the Panamanian coast. We're far enough south so that hurricanes are not a threat. (No plans at this time to go thru the Canal.)
My next blog post will be from Panama, aboard Milagro. Stay tuned!
That's a Formosa 54 right ? Can we call you Captain Ron ? :)
