Reunited at last!

Working on my blog from comfort of Dragonfly's salon

Finally, three weeks after our propeller broke, and two weeks camped out at La Quinta hotel during the infamous Blizzard of '21, we are reunited and back aboard our amazing sailboat Dragonfly!

Checking out of La Quinta

We left the hotel at daybreak, caught a Uber to the Shipyard, loaded up all our stuff (including Snow the cat), and got out of the shipyard by mid-morning.

Pier 77 exit into Galveston Bay
We circled around Pelican Island, and successfully made it to the Galveston Yacht Basin Marina by early afternoon.

Dragonfly appears to have survived the Blizzard fairly well intact, the mess and disarray notwithstanding.  Batteries are good.  I had siphoned out all the water in her plumbing beforehand, so the pipes and water tank looked Ok.  Out on the water, our new prop performed like a champ!  Interestingly, the depth sensor now works.  I'd give anything to know why it wasn't working before but works now.  Maybe sub-freezing temps is a fix-all?

New propeller

The biggest disappointment of the day:  our pier here at the marina has no water; the Big Freeze evidently broke a water main.  And as mentioned, I had drained our on-board water tank dry.  So the first thing we had to do was lug our 5-gallon water jerry can from a working spigot, back to Dragonfly, and dump its contents into the tank.  Rinse and repeat, etc, etc.  Ugh.

Sunset from the Marina Bar & Grill

The day ended on a positive note: we ate big, hot, juicy burgers & fries at the Marina Bar & Grill.  The open-air dining room was up on the 2nd level, overlooking another marina and the ICW, and a front-row seat to an amazing sunset.  Way cool!

We'll stay here at Yacht Basin a couple of nights while we fix a couple of items, do some housekeeping, and re-provision.  We're going to try and make it back to Stingaree on Thursday.  The weather forecast is iffy, but it's the best we got for the next several days.  At least the wind forecast calls for southerlies.

From there, we continue our trek to the east.  Homage has been duly paid to the sea gods so that nothing else big breaks.  Stay tuned!
