After two solid months of working on Dragonfly dusk-till-dawn nearly every day, I finally got enough of her put back together so that the family could use her for her intended purpose: to go SAILING!
Doug & family were still staying with
us until they had power back at their house in Lake Charles after Hurricane
Laura delivered its punch. And Emily
& Kate, in the States for a few days, had dropped in for a visit. Rounding out the party was Jeremy and his crew.
So it was now or never: let's get Dragonfly out of the marina and see
what she can do!
As the clumsy expression goes: a good time was had by all, which you can
clearly see from the photos. But the day
had its, shall we say, moments. First,
the @#$%! jib furler refused to work correctly.
(Gotta work on that next week.)
And then, Mother Nature was not very cooperative. When we got out into Galveston Bay, the wind
fizzled away to nothing. Only once or
twice did a smattering of a breeze touch our sails. Then, heading back to the marina, the sky
opened up and the mother of all thunderstorms drenched us all good. But what is sailing without a bit of drama,
eh?
More great sailing adventures await down
the road. Stay tuned.
